Course Note : |
M.Sc. Sociology is a twenty-four month programme of study, comprising of one year residency programme in which students are expected to undergo course work and proposal writing requirements. While the M.Sc. Sociology full time degree programme of study is required to be completed in a period of 24 calendar months, students may convert to part-time programme of study after completing the one year residency programme of course work. The part-time equivalent of their time remaining will be computed and made known to them by the Departmental Postgraduate Studies Coordinator when approved by the Postgraduate School. The M.Sc. Sociology programme builds on the foundations laid at the undergraduate and other lower levels of study as applicable to individual students. The structure of courses and their contents expose students to the logic and scientific basis of social research, theory construction and the state of the art in every candidate’s chosen area of specialization. All registered students are expected to take elective courses in related disciplines in the Department or other Departments of the University. The choice of courses to be taken must be discussed with the Academic Advisers/Supervisors. Each candidate is required to write a thesis that will be internally and externally examined and orally defended. |
