Parents

Information for Parents

Every parent wants the best for his or her child. Most parents want their children to have a better education than they did, while some want their children to study at a university they had attended or the one they have a link with. But wait a minute; things are not always the same way educationally. The admission requirements and processes of today have changed from what they were at your time (perhaps over 20 years ago). Irrespective of the university your child aims to attend, there is a lot of work that parents need to do for their children to get into the right university or receive the best education. After putting your child through secondary school, you are now at the stage that you need to guide them through the process of university application, taking JAMB and doing the post-UME. This whole university process is challenging for parents as well as their children.

You may not even know what to do next at some stage. Nuguide provides parents with the right information they need during the application process and time at university.

There are key questions parents seek answers to in the process of university admission for their child.

  • Where can my child study this course?
  • Which university offers what course?
  • Is a particular university accredited or recognized by the NUC?
  • What is accommodation issue like over there?
  • What sort of future will such a course bring anyone?
  • What are the job prospects for that course?
  • How much will it cost?

The list can be endless. After one problem is solved another one comes up. In most cases, they all involve money. All Nigerian universities charge fees for tuition and accommodation. So, money is always needed for tuition fees, accommodation and maintenance/living costs.

Finance:

Money matter is important and it comes up for settlement or discussion regularly. As students are made to deal with financial issues during their education, parents have a lot to do to help their child get the required financing for their education. What our experts say to parents on this issues is that ‘You can never have the money required for the entire time of study saved somewhere before the start of your study’. The money can come from different sources in the course of your study.

As there is currently no centralized system for student loan in the country, virtually all students are self-funded and the bulk of this fund falls on parents, guardians and family members of the student. A handful number of students rely on employer funded study, scholarships, personal savings and part-time activities during vacation.

The Nuguide Aid

The Nuguide aid scheme is designed to offer financial assistance to students that genuinely deserve financial assistance towards the cost of their studies.
